Paterson Fire Department Celebrates Promotions. Another Glass Ceiling Shattered with Promotion of Elizabeth A. Fournier

PATERSON, NJ- Just weeks after the Paterson Police Department made history by promoting the first female to the rank of Deputy Chief, the Paterson Fire Department made history of its own.

In a ceremony presided over by Mayor Jane Williams-Warren and held at Paterson Fire Headquarters, eight members of the Paterson Fire Department were promoted, including the first woman, Elizabeth A. Fournier, to earn the rank of Captain.

“Like generations of firefighters  before them the men and women promoted today have put Paterson and its residents  above themselves countless times,” said Jerry Behnke, President, FMBA Local 2. “I am proud to serve with all of them and congratulate them on this momentous day.”

In addition to the promotions Father Patrick Ryan was officially sworn in as the Chaplain of the Paterson Fire Department.
