Paterson Man Critical After Thursday Morning Shooting

PATERSON, NJ - A 30-year-old city man was in critical but stable condition after being shot during an apparent confrontation early Thursday morning.

According to Lt. Patrick Murray of the Paterson Police Ceasefire Unit, the victim sustained wounds from a shotgun to his torso and both arms shortly before 5 a.m. near the corner of Rosa Parks Blvd. and Hamilton Avenue. 

"At this time, it appears that the victim was in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Hamilton Avenue when he was involved in a confrontation that resulted in him being shot," Murray said. "The victim was then transported by private vehicle for treatment, and is currently in critical but stable condition."

The investigation was under way Thursday morning, and detectives are requesting assistance from the public. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Carlos Charon or Det. Rick Ferreira of the Ceasefire Unit at (973) 321-1342, or the Paterson Police anonymous tips line at (973) 523-TIPS.

The area where the shooting took place has been a busy one in the last couple of months. Two people were shot outside a restaurant near that corner on Dec. 21, 2013, and earlier this month, a Paterson man was shot while walking near the same intersection on Feb. 3.
