PATERSON, NJ - A car accident claimed the life of a city man Sunday night, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora.

In a statement the pair announced that police responded to the area of Ninth Avenue and East 26th Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. in response to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles. 

An initial investigation showed that Asanti Cugliari, 22, of Wayne was operating a 2013 Hyundai Genesis and Gustavo Marte, 58, of Paterson, was operating a 2008 Dodge Charger when the vehicles collided in the intersection. Marte was pronounced deceased at the scene. Cugliari remained on the scene, and presented a valid driver’s license.  No other vehicles were involved in this collision.
