PATERSON, NJ - Police are investigating the shooting of a city man who was walking home late Tuesday night.
According to Lt. Patrick Murray, the victim, a 28-year-old male, was walking in the vicinity of Barnert Place and North 4th Street Tuesday at about 10:40 p.m. when he was approached by a black male who asked him “What’s up?"
"The victim advised the male that he was just walking home, and continued on his way. He states that he took a few steps beyond the male when he heard a single gunshot and was struck at that time. The victim then ran to his residence to seek assistance," Murray said
The victim was struck by a bullet in the left shoulder and was treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center and then released.
Detectives have been investigating in the area for a possible crime scene and witnesses, and checking the area for video footage. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives Edgar Taylor or Rolando Polio of the Ceasefire Unit at (973) 321-1342.
