PATERSON, NJ- Paterson Police Officer Jose Urena faces up to ten years in jail following his conviction of charges that stemmed from the hit-and-run death of JaQuill Fields, a 23-year old Paterson man.

The jury announced reached the guilty verdict on Monday following a trial that started on October 16.

According to testimony, Urena left work at the Paterson Police Department at 8:00 p.m. on June 16, 2015 striking and killing Fields with his vehicle, a 2011 Mercedes Benz, at approximately 8:22 p.m. Urena did not stop his vehicle which was damaged and later located in the driveway of his home at about 1:30 a.m. on June 17.

Urena, whose bail has been revoked following the guilty verdict,  is set to be sentenced before Judge Jacobs for December 7, 2018.
