PATERSON, NJ- Hundreds of students returned to Paterson School 8 on Monday to a brand new playground thanks to the efforts of over 100 volunteers on Sunday.

Sponsored by Alexandra’s Playground, a non-profit organization set up by Michael and Andrea Vitale in honor of their daughter, Alexandra, who lost her life tragically in 2008, the build was a joint effort by the New Jersey Development Corporation and Paterson Public Schools.

“This work never gets old,” the NJCDC said in a celebratory Facebook post at the conclusion of the construction, with Eddie Gonzalez, the organization’s director of community outreach, and a former student at the school, saying it was another chance to give back to the community.

“The construction and ribbon cutting of this new playground showed exactly what ‘One Paterson’ is about” said Mayor-Elect Andre Sayegh who joined with the volunteers. “These sorts of efforts are happening all over our city, and will continue to thrive in the coming years, making our community an even better one for families and children.”
