Paterson Varsity Football Teams Prep for State Consolation Games

November 14, 2013 at 9:07 AM

PATERSON, NJ - Although neither team qualified for the state playoffs, both Paterson varsity football teams will go into this weekend's NJSIAA consolation matchups with 3-5 records and a chance for each to fight for a .500 mark when they finish the season against each other on Thanksgiving in the city--if they both can win this weekend.

Paterson Eastside takes a three-game winning streak into its road game against Livingston at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Ghosts' offense clicked in victories over Passaic (22-0), Clifton (22-18) and Fair Lawn (43-21). Quarterback Tahj Upshaw has completed 58 percent of his passes during the winning streak with five touchdown passes and 474 yards through the air. Running back Marlon Ebanks has gained 270 yards on 40 carries (6.8 yards per carry) during the same stretch.

On defense, lineman Akinde McQueen has sacked the quarterback 6.5 times and linebacker Isaiah Wharton has contributed more than 30 tackles during the Eastside winning streak.

Kennedy High School will host Bergen Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. Although the Knights have lost their last two games, those two opponents--Passaic Tech and Old Tappan--are a combined 15-1. Kennedy RB Shaon Stevenson will look to reignite the Knights' offense, which has scored just one TD over its last two games.
