BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Somerset Patriots have signed right-handed pitcher Zech Zinicola who they had faced earlier this season when he was with the Road Warriors.
Zinicola enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots; this is his third season in the Atlantic League. He also played with the Sugar Land Skeeters (2016-2017), and has been activated for Friday night's opening game of a weekend series in Texas against his former team.
In 19 games with the Road Warriors this year, Zinicola had a 4.98 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched.
The Loma Linda, Cal. native appeared in 70 games with the Skeeters over the last two seasons, finishing with a 2.93 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched during the 2016 campaign.
Zinicola was drafted in the sixth round of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft by the Washington Nationals organization, where he spent seven seasons to start his professional career. Zincola has eight seasons of minor league service, including four seasons at Triple-A.
In addition to time with the Nationals organization, Zinicola has a season of Double-A experience with the Baltimore Orioles.
For his career, Zinicola has a 3.86 ERA, 79 saves, and 502 strikeouts in 590 innings pitched in 480 games.
