The Madison Area YMCA’s LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a cancer survivors’ program, and St. Baldrick’s, an international childhood cancer charity, recently held an exciting and successful three-hour Spinathon that benefited LIVESTRONG at the YMCA and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. All proceeds were split 50/50.
The St. Baldrick Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA supports cancer survivors through its free initiative that provides opportunities to engage in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person. The 12-week, research-based program brings together cancer survivors and YMCA staff trained in cancer care to achieve goals such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; improving confidence and self-esteem; and ultimately practicing a healthy lifestyle, not only as a part of recovery but as a way of life.
