WESTFIELD, NJ — An accident in Westfield July 23 that sent a pedestrian to the hospital occurred when the driver of a Nissan Altima passed a bus that had stopped to allow the man to cross, according to Captain Scott Rodger of the Westfield Police Department. The New Jersey Transit bus was stopped in the right lane; the car passed it on the left, striking the man in the crosswalk.

The accident occurred at South Avenue and Boulevard at about 4:30 p.m. The pedestrian, a Westfield resident, was transported to University Hospital and released later that evening.

The driver, who is also from Westfield, has not been charged at this time, Rodger said Friday morning. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
