SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ -- The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA Performing Arts Program is growing in leaps and bounds! The Dance program at the Y is celebrating its’ 11th year, and now, in addition to dance, the Y offers youth theatre and music.
The Fanwood Scotch Plain YMCA theatre program is offered through partnership with the New Jersey Youth Theatre (NJYT). Under the direction of Cynthia Meryl (a thirty year veteran of Broadway, theatre and television) the NJYT provides young, aspiring performing artists the highest quality theatre-arts training and performance experience. Classes will be offered for students from kindergarten to middle school and begin the week of Sept. 2nd.
In addition to theatre, music lessons are also being offered through a partnership with New Jersey Workshop for the Arts under director Theodore K. Scholsberg. The faculty is composed of professional artists, musicians and educators who nurture the talents of each student. The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA will be offering small group classes in violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, recorder and Rock Band.
The Y Dance program has many opportunities to children of all ages and abilities. New this season are dance classes for 11-13 year olds without any prior experience. This is a great opportunity for an older dancer to come in and learn with their own age group as a beginner. Also being offered is Social and Cultural Dancing for Tweens including ballroom, flamenco, and Indian dancing. For more experienced dancers Pre-Pointe is being offered as well as Junior and Senior Dance Company. Auditions for Dance Company is: Saturday September 6, 12:30-2:30.
