SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Pet Shanty (2507 Route 22), a fixture for local pet owners for more than 25 years, has closed and filed in New Jersey Bankruptcy Court for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
"The owner, Charlie, was probably the single best source of advice that I've ever found, especially in the arena of salt and freshwater fish and corals," said Mitch Brenner, who shopped at the Pet Shanty for at least 15 years. "I would go there for everything — fish food, lighting, filtration media, as well as the fish themselves.”
“Basically anything more specialized than 'big bag' items like dog food, cat food, Charlie was my first choice,” Brenner added.
The store was noted for its wide selection and quality of its fresh and saltwater fish and pet items and for its knowledgeable staff. The Pet Shanty was also a good resource for snake supplies, including animals that snakes eat.
Chapter 7 is bankruptcy filing is commonly known as liquidation bankruptcy. It involves the sale of a debtor's assets by a trustee. Any proceeds obtained are then turned over to creditors, such as the IRS.
