According to Castle Connelly, its publication, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area, is the authoritative guide to finding the top primary care and specialty care doctors in the tri-state metropolitan New York area. The publication profiles more than 5,650 top primary care and specialty care physicians in a 20-county area spanning three states - New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The physicians represent the top 10 percent of doctors in the area for 65 medical specialties and subspecialties that include the care and treatment of more than 1,800 diseases and medical conditions. The book also has detailed information regarding many of the leading medical centers, hospitals and specialty hospitals in the New York Metro area.

University Hospital is one of the United States' premier academic medical centers.  Located in the Central Ward of Newark, it is a principal teaching hospital of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and offers high quality patient care across many medical specialties.

*Per Castle Connelly, asterisk denotes that a doctor, in Castle Connolly's estimation, is among the top 1% in the nation in his or her specialty.  Doctors listed without this icon are determined to be in the top 10% in their region.
