Philip R. Sellinger, Managing Shareholder of the Florham Park, New Jersey office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will receive the prestigious Judge Learned Hand Award from the American Jewish Committee, Metro New Jersey, on Thursday, April 7, 2011. The event will be held at the Hilton Short Hills, with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m.
The American Jewish Committee (AJC) established the Judge Learned Hand Award in memory of the respected jurist and humanitarian, Judge Learned Hand, who served on the United States Court of Appeals from 1942 to 1951. The award is presented to an outstanding leader in the legal profession who exemplifies the high principles for which Judge Hand was renowned.
Sellinger is a member of Greenberg Traurig’s Executive Committee and National Litigation Practice Steering Committee. Since opening the firm’s New Jersey office in 2002, he has spear-headed its growth to nearly 70 attorneys.
A former Assistant United States Attorney and federal clerk, Sellinger handles trials and other litigation around the country on behalf of mid-sized to Fortune 100 companies. He has appeared before the New Jersey Supreme Court and as amicus counsel before the United States Supreme Court. On behalf of the American and New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association, he also successfully defended in-house counsel’s right to appear in court.
Sellinger has served as Chair of the Lawyers Advisory Committee to the New Jersey federal judiciary and has served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Civil Practice Rules Committee. He is past chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Class Action Committee and Young Lawyers Division, a former Charter Fellow and board member of the National Center for Preventive Law and a former board member of the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. Best Lawyers in America, Chambers & Partners USA Guide and Super Lawyers magazine have all included Philip Sellinger in their listings. He is a recipient of the Corporate Legal Times Distinguished Legal Services Award and the Arts Horizon Celeste Holm Humanitarian Award.
Sellinger has lectured globally on a variety of legal topics. Long active in charitable causes, he has served on the Council of Trustees of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Network Foundation, the Atlantic Legal Foundation and the New Jersey Chapter of the United States Olympic Committee.
