RARITAN TWP., N.J. — Horses and children donned hats, some fancy, some not during a fundraiser for Team Velvet, Inc. a non-profit that uses horses to help children deal with traumatic experiences in their young lives.
Three local individuals were also honored at the May 6 event — Lon Hosford, Pier Guidi and Wilma Wilt.
Lon Hosford and Pier V. Guidi were presented the The High Tech Hero Community Service Award for volunteering their time to help with technological support such as creating the website and utilizing social media .
The Creative Wonderwoman Community Service Award went to long-time Stockton resident, Wilma Wilt, who took a break from manning the silent auction and raffle barn to receive her award.
Susan Edwards, Ph.D., Psychologist/Director of Team Velvet Inc. hopes that someday the organization will one day be able to buy the farm it is currently a tenant on. Owning the fram would allow the legacy of Team Velvet to live on long after she is gone, Dr. Edwards said.
