SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - New Jersey Amercian Water will continue its work throughout the township this winter with a pipeline project that will impact traffic on Raritan Road beginning next week.
Montana Construction, the contractor for NJAW, will begin replacing about 2,000 feet of 48-inch main on Raritan Road between Rahway Road and Overlook Way beginning Feb. 10. Although NJAW says that no disruptions in water service are expected during the anticipated three-month project, traffic will definitely be affected.
Raritan Road will be closed to through traffic between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Rahway Road to Overlook Way weekdays through the end of April. Traffic control will be coordinated by the Scotch Plains Police Department, and Cooper Road has been designated as the approved detour route.
According to NJAW, "Customers may experience a slight discoloration of the water when the pipeline is placed into service. If this happens, run your water until it clears up."
