SUMMIT, NJ - Girls Varsity Track Team member Claudia Piron and Boys Ice Hockey player Liam McLaughlin have been named Summit High School Athletes of the Week, presented by The Alternative Press of Summit, for the week ending February 9.
Each week throughout the school year, one girl and boy athlete will be honored for distinguishing herself / himself in the arena of competition, in the classroom, and for demonstrating exemplary, Hilltopper-caliber sportsmanship and leadership qualities.
During the week, and during the season, Piron has set three school records. She was a triple-medal winner at the New Jersey Sectional Championships, scoring 16 points, helping to lead the Hilltoppers to the North 2, Group 2 Championship. "Claudia is one of the most talented, hardest working, unselfish athletes I have ever coached,” said Summit Track Coach Adam Fern.
Team Captain McLaughlin had 13 points, in three games, over the past week. He broke the Summit High School career scoring record with his 196th career point. The previous record of 195 points was held by Matt Starker, Class of 2002.
