PLAINFIELD, NJ — Plainfield hosted the third Master Plain Workshop in the First Ward on Thursday at Emerson Community School.  The topics included Economic Development and Community Facilities, Land Use and Housing, and Transportation, and discussions were facilitated by H2M company.

The event was attended by citizens who raised questions and concerns about safety, expansion of the library, and affordable housing developments for senior citizens.

According to the consulting company, every city has to do a Master Plan that is developed through various stakeholders throughout the city. The plan is mandated by the State of New Jersey which requires each city to create a plan every ten years.

“We’ve heard the same concerns from each ward so far, which is a good thing. We are continuing to gather information so that each area could be addressed,” stated Nicole Venezia, H2M Project Consultant.

Members of the public are encouraged to go online to the Plainfield Master Plan webpage to access information and to see what has been discussed at the previous meetings.  The website is www.publicinput.com/plainfield.

“We had a very good turnout, but we continue to look for more participants. Each of tonight’s participants asked very good questions and people seem to be involved with this plan. The recommendations were great, and we will take them back to add to the list,” said Bill Nierstedt, Director of Planning.

Residents are also encouraged to ask questions through email at plainfield@publicinput.com.

The fourth and final meeting is scheduled to be held in the Third Ward on Dec. 3 at Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Ave. from 6 to 8 p.m.
