PLAINFIELD, NJ – Don Sofilkanich, a renowned high school coach with three consecutive State titles and several players who went on to the NFL, has been appointed head football coach for the Plainfield Cardinals.

The Cardinals went 2-9-0 in its 2018 season under Coach Corey Tucker.

Sofilkanich will oversee the entire football program at Plainfield High School and the middle schools. He will be in charge of the varsity, junior varsity, freshmen and middle school football teams.

Sofilkanich starts immediately, with an interest meeting with players at Plainfield High School cafeteria on Monday, March 25 at 3:15 p.m.

John Quinn, Director of Plainfield Public Schools Athletics, said, “Coach Sofilkanich has an amazing background as a football coach and is a proven winner and rebuilder of high school football teams.

“We are very excited to have him join our Cardinal Football Team as our Head Football Coach. I think he is going to provide renewed enthusiasm to the program.”

Coach Sofilkanich has assisted on State Championships at Dover in 1996, and at New Brunswick in 2003 and 2006. In 2003 his team was named the top Public Schools team in New Jersey. The 2003 team had on its roster New York Giant Captain and two-time Super Bowl Champion Jonathan Casillas, and USC National Champion and All-American Dwayne Jarrett.

Most recently, Coach Sofilkanich led the Asbury Park program to an amazing three consecutive State Titles as its head football coach, and rebuilt the New Brunswick football team.

“The Cardinals have a proven leader and molder of young men at the helm of their football program,” said Quinn.
