SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - The Plainfield varsity girls basketball team built a 20-point first half and went on to a 73-57 victory over Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Thursday night.
Guard Drew Winter collected a game-high 33 points along with five assists and four steals for Plainfield. She was part of a powerful one-two scoring combination with forward Breana Spencer, who finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Cardinals.
Sophomore Amani Williams had a big game for Scotch Plains-Fanwood, scoring 28 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Williams also handed out four assists and came away with three steals. The Raiders tried to make a game of it in the second half, outscoring Plainfield, 24-18, in the third quarter.
Sophomore Caroline Babis of Scotch Plains-Fanwood finished with nine points and five rebounds and Thabitha Dwunfour totaled six rebounds and two blocks for the Raiders.
Plainfield raised its record to 8-5. Scotch Plains-Fanwood slipped to 3-9.
