ASBURY PARK, NJ -- Comedian John Poveromo spoke with TAPintoTV about his hosting gig at this year’s Garden State Film Festival, along with his experience as a working stand-up performer and comedy writer.
His brand of comedy has been described as “the perfect blend of self-deprecation and optimism.” Poveromo can be found performing stand-up in clubs around the country and writing for several high-profile TV shows. At this year’s GSFF, he hosted a screening of a block of films at Asbury Park’s legendary Paramount Theater.
“I’m prepared for everything,” said Poveromo. “I like it when the audience is into it. I don’t like them interrupting the show. It leaves you with the responsibility of being in Dad mode.”
“For 15 years, I’ve been a stand-up comedian,” he said, “and we just did a benefit for Meals with a Mission, raising a lot of money for them.”
As someone who was raised in New Jersey, Poveromo is excited to be hosting at the Garden State Film Festival. “I’m a local guy,” he said. “I grew up in Toms River, and I’m here to support.”
