February 25, 2014 at 4:00 AM

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The South Plainfield Police Department is continuing to investigate a shooting that took place outside the Liquid Assets strip club on Sunday morning.  The Police Department is reporting the victim is a 24 year-old Plainfield resident.  The victim was shot in the back and is listed in stable condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Sunday morning’s shooting took place a little before 2 a.m. Police have not identified any motives in the shooting and have asked that anyone with any knowledge to contact Sergeant Dan Hoppe or Detective Daryl Strother at (908) 226-7660.

The borough has been in an ongoing dispute with the Liquid Assets strip club and its operations. South Plainfield Mayor Matthew P. Anesh said of the shooting, “We have had issues with this place in the past. We have suspended their license, and we have voted to not renew their license to operate the past two years. The State of New Jersey has given them a stay, but we are not done fighting this, and this incident shows we are not done fighting for good reason.  We are applying to the state to lift the stay due to this latest incident.”

January 11, 2017

As Donald Trump’s inauguration draws near, a number of groups are planning various events and rallies – perhaps most notably, the Women’s March on Washington. I have read a number of opinion pieces and spoken to many people about the March, and several questions and criticisms seem to consistently arise. I would like to address two of the major themes.

Tears Are Good, They Let The Sadness Out

January 16, 2017

Jackie Kennedy and Coretta Scott King were our nation’s role models for mourning in the 1960’s and in the decades since. They were praised for their strength and stoicism, their courage and grace, and rightly so. They were great role models for our nation at a time of great unrest and anxiety, but I would say they were not the role models we needed when it came to grieving our ...

Man vs. Waze

A lot of strange cars are traveling through my quiet neighborhood these days.  They are not driven by my neighbors.  Some mornings I even have trouble getting out of my driveway.

Waze.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...

Falling by Jane Green

Falling by Jane Green (Berkley, 2016)

Every now and again I just love a mindless romance novel, and I've been a huge fan of Jane Green's since her first book, Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans. Despite being classified as “chick lit,” the character and plot of Jemima J. has stayed with me for sixteen years after first reading it because the story ...
