Police Investigate Aggravated Assault in Bridgewater Of Woman On Her Own Patio


SOMERVILLE, NJ - Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Timothy Fitzgerald, and Bridgewater Township Chief of Police Manuel Caravela state that law enforcement authorities are investigating an aggravated assault that occurred on Wednesday, May 21.

Soriano stated that at approximately 10 p.m. Bridgewater Township Police responded to a 9-1-1 call from a residence located on North Mountain Avenue. 
Responding Officers encountered the female homeowner who was suffering from a laceration to her head and bruising to her upper extremities. The victim reported to police that as she sat on the rear patio of her residence she was confronted by an unknown male who, without provocation, began to physically assault her with a blunt force object. The victim was able to escape the assault by retreating into her residence. Upon entering her residence one of her children notified authorities.
Prosecutor Soriano states that victim described her attacker as a black male, early 20’s, approximately 6 feet tall with a slender/thin build and  wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Detectives from the Bridgewater Township Police Department and Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit responded to search for the assailant and to conduct the investigation. The search for the assailant yielded negative results.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was treated and released.
