Police Investigating Theft of Mercedes From Chatham Borough Residence

On March 14 at 10:12 PM, Patrolman Brian Maher investigated a 2-car accident at the intersection of Main Street and Van Doren Avenue. A 2003 Porsche driven by Michael Congedo age 43 of Basking Ridge, was proceeding south through the intersection when he was struck by a car traveling west on Main Street. The second car was a 2003 Saturn driven by Haley Kreis age 19 of Florham Park. Kreis was issued a summons for driving through a red light.

On March 15 at 8:34 AM, Patrolman Andrew Pereira investigated a 2-car accident on Main Street in front of the Library. A 2003 Honda driven by Susan Sing age 60 of Millburn, was driving slowly in traffic when she was struck from behind. The other car was a 2007 BMW driven by Gwendolyn Smith-Burse age 46 of Union. There were no injuries and Smith-Burse was issued a summons for Careless Driving.

On March 18 at 3:38 PM, Patrolman Jeffrey Battiloro investigated a 1-car accident on Main Street in front of the Post Office. A 2010 Mercedes driven by Stewart Phelps age 81 of Chatham ran, up on to the sidewalk as he was attempting to park his car. Phelps stated that his sneaker stuck to the gas pedal causing the car to accelerate. He struck a large potted plant on the sidewalk and then struck a decorative pillar in front of the Post Office. Phelps was not injured and he was issued a summons for Careless Driving.

On March 19 at 5:23 AM, Patrolman Roy George investigated a car stolen from a driveway on Oak Drive. The resident went out to go to work and found that his 2013 Mercedes was stolen from the driveway. The car was the first car in the driveway in front of two other cars, and the actor(s) drove the Mercedes across the lawn to get out of the driveway. The car is described as a 2013 Mercedes GL450 with NJ registration A72-CWM with a Chatham Cougar sticker on the tailgate.
