Police Seeking Suspect in Assault, Attempted Robbery of Berkeley Heights Woman

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – Police are seeking a man who assaulted and attempted to rob a woman as she walked home from work on Plainfield Avenue on Nov. 14.

Police said the 22-year-old victim reported that at approximately 10:45 p.m., she was walking on Plainfield Avenue near Lincoln Street when she noticed a man following her. He caught up with her, grabbed her by the wrist and demanded money.

When the woman was unable to hand over any money, the suspect shoved her to the ground and fled west on Lincoln Street.

The suspect is described as olive skinned, approximately six feet tall, thin build and unshaven, in his late twenties or early thirties, wearing a grey hoodie, blue jeans and sneakers.

A sketch artist from the New Jersey State Police completed a rendering of the suspect. The incident is under investigation by Detective Michael Delia of the Berkeley Heights Police Department. Anyone with any information is asked to call him at 908-464-1111.
