Poor Herbie's at The Taste of Madison on April 7

March 14, 2014 at 11:50 AM

MADISON, NJ - At Poor Herbie’s, which is in the heart of downtown Madison, they always say, "Come for the food and stay for the fun.”
On Monday, April 7, the good people of Poor Herbie’s are taking their food and fun on the road for one night only to the Taste of Madison, a must attend event for aficionados of fine food and wine. The 2014 edition Taste of Madison, a sophisticated fundraiser that delights its guests as it benefits the entire community, is being held at the elegant Park Avenue Club, 184 Park Avenue, Florham Park. The Taste venue is a short distance from downtown Madison. Tickets are on sale now.
The Taste is treating its guests to the cuisines of almost thirty local food establishments. In a rare, local appearance the renowned wineries of the Napa Valley Vintners, a trade organization for the distinguished vineyards of Napa Valley, are the sole provider of wine to Taste guests.
Gary’s Wine & Market Place, the longtime Presenting Sponsor of the Taste, arranged for the special participation by the members of the Napa Valley Vintners, whose motto is “Cultivating Excellence.”

Poor Herbie’s has participated in the Taste since its founding in 2002, said Judy Mullins, a proprietor of Poor Herbie’s, which has been owned and operated by her family since 1992 and is located at 13 Waverly Place.
“At the Taste we are serving our crowd-pleasing Shepherds' Pie -- beef with peas, carrots, savory gravy and a topping of creamy mashed potatoes. Comfort food!” Mullins said in the middle of her crowded dining room on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, which is always celebrated in grand style at Poor Herbie’s.
“Madison has a very active cluster of exceptional dining choices, concentrated in our historic downtown, and The Taste of Madison is a great opportunity to try all the participants,” Mullins said.
The Taste offers two kinds of tickets. VIP Admission at $100.00 permits entry an hour early at 6:00pm. General Admission at $65.00 permits entry at 7:00pm. The event ends at 9:30pm. Valet parking is available. All guests must be 21 years of age or older.
Tickets are available at and at Gary’s Wine & Marketplace at 121 Main Street and at Gary’s other locations in Wayne and Bernardsville.
The following Madison merchants are also selling tickets: d torr boutique at 36 Main St., Sprouts Consignment at 250 Main St., The Madison Pharmacy at 66 Main St. and Salvatore Minardi Salon at 8 Park Ave. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
Proceeds from the Taste help to fund local charities, civic improvements and business development in Madison. The Taste of Madison Organizing Committee, which produces the event, is comprised of volunteers from the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, the Madison Downtown Development Commission and the Rotary Club of Madison.
“Supporting the DDC, Rotary and the energetic Chamber of Commerce is a great way to keep our landmark businesses thriving, as we cross our fingers for SPRING to come!” Mullins said.
Tastings of beer and spirits will on tap at the Taste courtesy of Main Street Wine Cellars, 306 Main St. Along with the fine food and drink, the Taste offers its guests a silent auction and a basket raffle and a 50/50 raffle.
All Taste revenue is derived from three sources: ticket sales; auctioned merchandise and services; and corporate sponsorships from businesses that are supportive of the community and are interested in Madison’s well being.
The following Madison food establishments are serving food at the Taste:
          Empire Schezuan, 258 Main St.
