Three Sussex County men face drug charges after they the vehicle they were traveling in was stopped for an equipment violation on January 12th. At 8:19 pm, a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling north on the Sparta Junction when it was stopped by Sparta Police for having an inoperable right headlight.
The operator, later identified as 24-year-old Michael Scalici of Hamburg was found to be operating his motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. There were two passengers in the vehicle with Scalici. 22-year-old Sussex resident Michael Trivisani and Wantage resident 33-year-old Jason Guadano. Trivisani was found in possession of a 12-pack of “Twisted Tea” which had open containers of alcohol inside.
Scalici agreed to a consent to search his vehicle. Subsequent investigation resulted in 19 bags of heroin being located above the visor in the driver’s side of the vehicle. All three men were arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.
Scalici was charged with; Possession of Heroin, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Motor Vehicle. Driving While Suspended and several documentation violations.
Guadagno was charged; Possession of Heroin and Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle. Trivisani was charged with; Possession of Heroin.
All three were released several hours later on their own recognizance. They have a required court appearance in Sparta Municipal Court on January 17, 2013 at 9:00 am. Sgt. Jeffrey Mase, Cpl. Marc Rubino and Officer Adam Carbery conducted the investigation.
