Pre-Season Training For Athletes

August 29, 2014 at 10:15 AM

MORRISTOWN, NJ - By now, many schools have begun their pre-season training for various fall sports.

Daisuke Sato, Morristown Beard School’s Athletic Trainer, shared very important information regarding pre-season conditioning and hydration.

“Off season is very important and contributes to the success of pre-season,” added Daisuke.  “People have to continue training off season so the amount of time needed to regain optimal shape during pre-season is shortened.”

Daisuke also discussed the importance of a thorough warm up and cool down when conditioning.  A good warm up includes stretching, a jog or a bike ride to help increase the body’s core temperature prior to strenuous exercise or activity.

“A thorough cool down is equally important to any exercise routine,” added Daisuke.  A light stretch or jog is considered a “cool down” which serves the purpose of lowering the body’s temperature after intense training.

Daisuke also included, “Hydration is so important, before, during, and after strenuous activity.  Water is great for hydration the first 60 minutes of an activity, however, sports drinks replenish the lost water and electrolytes after the first hour of exercise.

A combination of consistent conditioning off- season, constant hydration, and a thorough warm up and cool down are key factors for any sport’s pre-season.

They were great role models for our nation at a time of great unrest and anxiety, but I would say they were not the role models we needed when it came to grieving our ...
