EAST ORANGE, NJ - The Pride Parent Council set a huge goal for themselves that will bring great big smiles to the faces of the Pride scholars. Members are working to raise $20,000 to re-build a playground for the scholars of Pride Academy Charter School.

This goal honors the achievement of past Parent Council members who were able to bring a playground to Pride Academy in 2012.  That playground, unfortunately, had to be taken down in order to build a new wing and great room.  Now that the expansion project is complete, the selfless and dedicated Pride parents want to bring back the playground.

The Parent Council is working hard to raise the $20,000 needed to rebuild the playground.  Already underway are fundraisers in collaboration with the New York Jets and Modell’s Sporting Goods, as well as a BIG COMMUNITY RUMMAGE SALE taking place on Saturday, November 17th from 9am to 2pm.   Future fundraising events include a Scrib Gift Cards Sale and a Raffle for a $1,000 cash prize.

As the members of the Parent Council work towards achieving this goal, they look for the support of their whole Pride family.  If every family helps us raise funds by participating and spreading the word, we will be able to provide all of our scholars with a safe place to play and have fun.

The Pride Academy Parent Council has been an instrumental part of the school’s success.  From the very beginning, the Parent Council has work selflessly to support the scholars of Pride.  Among their many contributions was support of purchasing necessary supplies and equipment when the school first opened and had limited resources. They also work to recognize teachers during teachers and staff during Teachers’ Appreciation Week, develop and implement community-building events, such as their annual Generations Dance, and raise funds for  annual scholarships for graduates.

Ms. Rose Mary Dumenigo, Vice Principal of Pride Academy Charter School remarks, “Almost on a daily basis, I am completely overwhelmed by the selfless commitment that our Parent Council has for our school community.  I have worked in several schools and have never experience anything like this.  Their love for our school and our children is ever present.  All they do is done with great love.  We have the best parents in the world, and we are so blessed to have them”
