CHATHAM, NJ - Matthew Pridham was sworn in as a new Probationary Firefighter for the Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department Hose at Borough of Chatham Council meeting on Monday night.

Pridham left Chatham for Kensington, Md., and then Washington, D.C., before returning after nearly a 30-year absence.

"I grew up here and I'm back here," Pridham said. "I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be a lot of fun. I'd like to take a moment and thank one of your employees, Steven Williams (Deputy Fire Marshall). He was the one who really put it together. It was an issue getting all my paperwork out of D.C. Without his help I would not be standing here right now. He did it all. He told me he would get it done and he got it done."

In other business, the council authorized the award of a $37,000 contract to Roof Management, Inc., of Neptune for the Borough Hall Roof Improvement Project. It was the lowest of four bids received received on Aug. 7.

"It came in well below what we had projected," Vincent DeNave, borough engineer said.
