Charlie Oppler, chief operating officer and broker associate, Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, started in the real estate business in 1981. Over three decades, he has grown and developed the business, acquiring the highly regarded Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, which he merged with the independent company, Classic Realty Group, owned by Oppler and his partner, Randy Lyn Ketive. The offices are located in Alpine, Franklin Lakes, Fort Lee, Hillsdale, Hoboken, Montclair, Ridgewood, Saddle River, Tenafly, Westfield, and now, Short Hills. In 2012, Prominent Properties Sotheby’s closed more than $1 billion in sales, through more than 1,300 transactions and 1,200 rentals. With an average per-transaction price of approximately $775,000 in 2012, Oppler projects that his company will be in the top 125 real estate companies in the country and close over $1.2 billion in sales.

Oppler selected the Short Hills/Millburn, Summit, Chatham and Madison (Route 24 corridor) and surrounding area for his latest office, saying, “This beautiful area has always been a wonderful place to live. Opening offices in this area is an opportunity to expand our footprint and become the premier luxury Real Estate Company in New Jersey.”

The consumer in this market is very educated, Oppler explains. “Prospective buyers and sellers in this area look for experienced real estate professionals to guide them through the home purchase or sale in a professional manner,” he said.

Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty selected Karen Howells to manage the Short Hills office.  Howells is a seasoned broker who has worked in Summit, Short Hills/Millburn, Chatham and the surrounding area for years. Oppler and Howells have a team of knowledgeable associates who live and work in the community.

Oppler serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Realtors (NAR).  Meetings at the national level give him a pulse on trends in the industry. Current legislation and regulation are the industry’s biggest concerns.

Oppler is focused on giving back to communities and organizations throughout New Jersey. Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty works closely with Move for Hunger (, a non-profit based in Neptune. Moving companies take non-perishable food items that remain in a home when a move occurs and donates them to food banks or other centers in need. Working with Move for Hunger is a great source of pride for Oppler, who values using the resources of his company and agents to give back.
