Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty: 'Marketing New Jersey Real Estate at the Highest Level'

November 21, 2013 at 6:00 AM

MILLBURN, NJ - If you find yourself driving through Short Hills, going along Millburn Avenue, take a look over at 555 Millburn Ave. There, Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty real estate office awaits. While you’re there, keep an eye on the sleek flat screen in the foyer. You’ll find yourself basking in the glory of one extraordinary property after another, each distinctive in its own right. Before long, it’s easy to see why Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty is one of the top real estate companies in the country.

Their properties are varied and diverse, but they have one thing in common: they’re magnificent--amazing examples of homes anyone would be proud to make their own.

Charlie Oppler, chief operating officer and broker associate, Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, started in the real estate business in 1981. Over three decades, he has grown and developed the business, acquiring the highly regarded Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, which he merged with the independent company, Classic Realty Group, owned by Oppler and his partner, Randy Lyn Ketive. The company has 11 offices and more than 450 agents serving Northern and Central New Jersey.

The offices are located in Alpine, Franklin Lakes, Fort Lee, Hillsdale, Hoboken, Montclair, Ridgewood, Saddle River, Tenafly, Westfield, and now, Short Hills. In 2012, Prominent Properties Sotheby’s closed more than $1 billion in sales, through more than 1,300 transactions and 1,200 rentals. With an average per-transaction price of approximately $775,000 in 2012, Oppler projects that his company will be in the top 125 real estate companies in the country and close over $1.2 billion in sales.

Oppler selected the Short Hills/Millburn, Summit, Chatham and Madison (Route 24 corridor) and surrounding area for his latest office, saying, “This beautiful area has always been a wonderful place to live. Opening offices in this area is an opportunity to expand our footprint and become the premier luxury Real Estate Company in New Jersey.”

The consumer in this market is very educated, Oppler explains. “Prospective buyers and sellers in this area look for experienced real estate professionals to guide them through the home purchase or sale in a professional manner,” he said.

Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty selected Karen Howells to manage the Short Hills office.  Howells is a seasoned broker who has worked in Summit, Short Hills/Millburn, Chatham and the surrounding area for years. Oppler and Howells have a team of knowledgeable associates who live and work in the community.

When asked what sets Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty apart from the competition, Oppler explained that the Sotheby’s International Realty brand and its relationship with the Sotheby’s Auction House is highly regarded and represents high-quality product and service.  “We aim to exceed all expectations of our buyers and sellers every time," said Oppler.

Furthermore, there is an international component to the business that benefits many clients. With more than 450 agents companywide, and an International Referral program, consumers have access to more than 600 offices worldwide in 45 countries that carry the Sotheby’s International Realty name. Clients enjoy the same high level of service and access to resources at the Sotheby’s International Realty offices worldwide

Oppler serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Realtors (NAR).  Meetings at the national level give him a pulse on trends in the industry. Current legislation and regulation are the industry’s biggest concerns.

Oppler is focused on giving back to communities and organizations throughout New Jersey. Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty works closely with Move for Hunger (, a non-profit based in Neptune. Moving companies take non-perishable food items that remain in a home when a move occurs and donates them to food banks or other centers in need. Working with Move for Hunger is a great source of pride for Oppler, who values using the resources of his company and agents to give back.

Howells is thrilled to represent Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty and welcomes inquiries from anyone considering a move. “The market continues to show stability and opportunity at the same time.  Interest rates are still at historic low rates and inventory is still low. Those interested in buying and selling should stop by to find out more," Howells said. Howells can be reached at the Short Hills office at (973) 376-8188.
