ROXBURY, NJ - A "Meet the Candidates Night" video made by some Roxbury parents allows voters to see and hear the five people seeking election to the Roxbury School Board.
The video, published online today, was created by the Lincoln-Roosevelt School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). It begins with a welcoming announcement by PTO Vice-President Michelle Stein, who says she was acting as the event's "moderator."
Although it appeared the event was taking place live, the candidates actually sent in self-recorded videos in which they introduced themselves, gave their reasons for seeking election to the 3-year terms and answered several questions that had been posed beforehand by the PTO. The clips submitted to the PTO by the candidates were combined into the "Meet the Candidates Night" video.
Because the PTO's Meet the Candidates Night was not live, there was no opportunity for members of the public to pose questions or for the candidates to challenge their opponents' statements.
"This event's usually held in-person at Lincoln-Roosevelt and moderated by the League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government," Stein says. "However, due to COVID, this event has moved virtually this year."
