SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Despite a brilliant performance from pitcher Kelsey Quinn, the New Providence varsity softball team fell short in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament on Wednesday.

Quinn pitched a three-hitter, but Dayton of Springfield defeated the Pioneers, 2-1, in the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 1 state tournament. Quinn struck out 12 batters, walked only one, and neither of the runs she allowed was earned.

Elizabeth Mohan had two hits in four at-bats for New Providence.
