SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Today's rain forced the cancellation of this afternoon's Central Jersey NJSIAA Group One girls soccer semifinals. The Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team is the second seed in the tournament and earned a semifinal appearance after a 1-0 overtime victory over New Egypt High School on Friday.

Spotswood was scheduled to take on third seeded Point Pleasant Beach High School at 2 p.m. before Mother Nature's heavy rains postponed the matchup. The two teams are set to play the game tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field though the location may be moved due to field conditions.

Despite being the second seed, the Chargers are considered by many to be the underdog against Point Pleasant Beach who has defeated their previous two opponents in the tournament by lopsided 8-0 shutouts. Spotswood received a bye in the first round along with top seeded Shore Regional High School. Shore's semifinal game with 13th seeded South Hunterdon High School was also postponed today.

Spotswood has an overall record of 14-5 while the Gulls are 16-2. Point Pleasant Beach's only loses this year have come against St. Rose and Freehold Township. Both Spotswood and Point Pleasant Beach finished second in their respective conferences.
