Redwood Elementary School in West Orange Receives Second NJ Council of PTAs Award

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Redwood Elementary School PTA will be the recipient of their second consecutive New Jersey PTA award for their successful 2012-2013 Afterschool Enrichment program.  On March 22, the PTA will be honored with the Shine Bright for Every Child Award at the NJPTA Convention Awards Ceremony. Program.

The Afterschool Enrichment program ran two separate sessions (nine weeks each) with twice-weekly course offerings in programs such as fitness, science, math, engineering, character development, social skills, art, music, dance, environment, Mixed Media Magic, Science of Survival, Golf/Tennis, Cardio-Fit Fun, Jazz Funk, Legos, and Sign Language.

The goal of the program, according to PTA parents Erica Schwartz and Deborah Snow who spearheaded the effort,  was to "provide multi-faceted enrichment activities to Redwood students to allow them to achieve their full potential and further enhance their learning experience."

The PTA was also able to involve parents, teachers, and community vendors to ensure current and relevant educational opportunities in the enrichment program.

The Redwood PTA was also selected as the winner of the 2011-2012 NJPTA President's Award for their efforts to install SmartBoards in all Redwood classrooms.
