WESTFIELD, NJ – People of all ages and abilities are invited to join the Paul Jackson Fund’s Annual 5K, 2 Mile Walk and Kids’ Fun Run to be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Oak Ridge Park in Clark. The fun-filled community event will include refreshments, DJ, random prizes and kids’ activities.
The Paul Jackson Fund (PJF), started 22 years ago in Westfield, assists families who are in a financial crisis because of a long-term illness or disability. Over the years The Paul Jackson Fund has assisted hundreds of families who found themselves in dire situations.
“The Paul Jackson Fund hosts two major fundraisers a year—our Giving Hope Gala, which will be held on March 22, 2014, at the Grand Summit Hotel and the Paul Jackson 5K/2 Mile Walk on Sept. 21 at Oak Ridge Park in Clark,” said Mary Doherty, PJF’s director of development. “These events are crucial in allowing us to fulfill our mission of easing burdens in times of medical crisis. Our goal is to raise $20,000 at this year’s race. With that funding, we will be able to be a source of hope and assistance for families in need when they have nowhere else to turn.”
Registration on Sept. 21 begins at 8 a.m. Start times are: 5K Run at 9:30 a.m., 2 Mile Walk at 9:45 a.m. and the Kids’ Fun Run (ages 2-11) at 10:30 a.m. The course is entirely within the park on paved paths. Mile clocks and water stops are provided. The Paul Jackson 5K is a certified USATF race. The 2 Mile Walk is wheelchair-friendly.
The entry fee for the run and walk is $23 (USATF $20) before Sept. 17. Starting Sept. 17, the fee will be $25. Registration is also open the day of the race. The fee for the Kids' Fun Run is $9. All participants raising $100 or more run or walk for free. Register online at www.RaceForum.com/pauljackson.
All pre-registrants will receive a t-shirt and goody bag. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, both overall and by age groups. All children participating in the Kids’ Fun Run will receive finisher ribbons.
Fundraising prizes will be awarded, as well. Raise $1,000 or more and receive an iPad Mini. Raise $500 or more and receive a $75 Visa Gift Card. And, for children 18 and under, raise $300 or more and receive a 2014 season pass to Six Flags or raise $150 or more and receive 2 AMC Movie Passes.

“If people bring service-hour forms to the volunteer tent, a volunteer coordinator there will sign off on community service hours,” said Doherty.
