MAHOPAC, N.Y. - After more than three months of delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, plans to open an Ocean State Job Lot store in the former Kmart building in the Lake Plaza Shopping Center on Route 6 are back on track.

James Hines, regional director for the North Kingstown, R.I.-based Ocean State Job Lot, said the company plans to have a soft opening around Aug. 20. Prior to the pandemic, the plan had been to open in April. Now, workers are back in the building undertaking the renovations.

“We are doing the construction now and the next phase will be merchandising,” Hines said. “We had hoped to open in April, but these things happen, and you learn as you go. We take our time to make sure we do it right and everyone is safe. Safety is first with us. Now, we have more latitude to push forward.”

Ocean State Job Lot will be offering an array of jobs—as many as 50 positions—as it prepares to open.

“The fun part of opening a new store in a new community is to be able to offer employment, and we like to hire within the community with all different positions,” Hines said.

Ocean State Job Lot is a discount closeout retailer with stores throughout New England, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania and looking to fill both full-time and part-time positions at the Mahopac store. Open positions include store leadership, area supervisors, ad coordinator, department heads, field merchandiser, front-end supervisors, operations supervisor, maintenance associate, receiver, sales associates, stock associates, and visual merchandisers.

“We’re excited to move another step closer toward opening our doors in the Mahopac community this summer,” said Paul Cox, director of store operations for Ocean State Job Lot. “We’re looking to hire motivated and friendly individuals who will help deliver the outstanding customer service that we’re known for.”
