BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- Sophie Beneventine, a point guard at Ridge High School, on Wednesday signed a letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Boston University.

As a junior, the 5-foot-8 playmaker averaged 9.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists. She will head into her senior season with 767 career points. Her verbal commitment to Boston University was reported first by TAPinto Basking Ridge in March.

With Beneventine, a three-year varsity starter, running the offense, Ridge has improved every season dating back to her freshman year. Last season, Ridge finished 20-9, after going 16-12 in 2018.

"Despite her quiet demeanor, Sophie's drive and competitive spirit are just a few of the attributes that will make her a favorite of teammates and fans alike," said Marisa Moseley, head women's basketball coach at Boston University. "When on the court, Sophie does not have an off switch. Her energy and grit will undoubtedly raise the level of play of teammates, while her IQ and athleticism will prove to be a nightmare for opponents."

"We're all really excited for Sophie," said Ridge girls basketball head coach Eric Schroeder. "She has really earned this. She is a phenomenal point guard and a great leader. We're extremely proud of her, and excited for next season. She became more of a leader, both on and off the court, this year. She is like a second coach on the court."
