'Rising Star' Ends for Warren's April Lockhart

August 11, 2014 at 6:53 AM

WARREN , NJ - Last night was the end of the road for Warren's April Lockhart on "Rising Star," as the Top 8 became the Top 6. The top five singers from the East Coast voting advanced and one of the other three was able to move on with the West Coast vote.

Moving on to the semi-finals are:
Joshua Peavy ("American Woman")
Result: 71%

Dana Williams ("Human")
Result: 57%

Audrey Kate Geiger ("New York State of Mind")
Result: 85%

Austin French ("House of the Rising Sun")
Result: 89%

Jesse Kinch ("Money (That's What I Want)")
Result: 88%

And, like last week, one extra singer will advance thanks to the West Coast viewers.

April Lockhart was in the bottom three with  ("Girls Just Want to Have Fun") Result: 27%. Joining her were
Maneepat Malloy ("Your Song")Result: 46% and Shameia Crawford ("Skyscraper") Result: 54%.

In the pre-performance video, the other contestants and Josh Groban discussed Lockhart's quirkiness and how she can get away with silly things that the rest of them can’t, such as saying “cool beans.” They feel she has the perfect makings of a pop star. Ludacris adds she’s been through more adversity than just about anyone else in the competition. Brad Paisley feels there’s almost no song she doesn’t sound cool doing.

April sang "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and Paisley and Ludacris voted “no,” leaving her with just 27% of the vote.

Paisley is disappointed because he feels this is the one time where an April Lockhart performance didn’t really work. And he hates that he didn’t love it, since he loves April. However, he does feel she has a career. Ludacris said he didn’t think this was a good song choice and Kesha wasn’t sure about the song choice, but she feels it’s such a fun song, and April is such a cute girl, that she enjoyed it.

After the West Coast voting, Maneepat Molloy will move on to the Semifinals. That's a huge swing from the East Coast viewers, as she went up 9%.

The West Coast results were:
April Lockhart: 30%
Maneepat Molloy: 55%
Shameia Crawford: 54%

Tears Are Good, They Let The Sadness Out

January 16, 2017

Jackie Kennedy and Coretta Scott King were our nation’s role models for mourning in the 1960’s and in the decades since. They were praised for their strength and stoicism, their courage and grace, and rightly so. They were great role models for our nation at a time of great unrest and anxiety, but I would say they were not the role models we needed when it came to grieving our ...

Falling by Jane Green

Falling by Jane Green (Berkley, 2016)

Every now and again I just love a mindless romance novel, and I've been a huge fan of Jane Green's since her first book, Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans. Despite being classified as “chick lit,” the character and plot of Jemima J. has stayed with me for sixteen years after first reading it because the story ...
