SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Wednesday morning, a large branch fell and took down wires on Raritan Road between Martine Avenue and Black Birch Road, causing a small fire.
Raritan Road was closed with no access westbound from Martine Avenue, which meant that anyone wanting to gain access to Union County Vo-Tech High School had to come down Terrill Road. Only emergency and utility vehicles will be allowed into the work zone while the road is closed.
Cooper Road had been closed for repairs, but was opened early to provide access from Martine to Terrill without a detour. As for the Cooper Road closure for Thursday, Aug. 29, the water company will begin the day with the road shut between Terrill and Fenimore as it was on Wednesday.
By midday, the foreman said they will shift the closure between Martine and Fenimore. Access to the Ponderosa Park will be sporadic and will depend on where the contractor is working at that particular hour.
Scotch Plains Police are requesting that motorists obey the 25 mph speed limit, and follow the detour signs
