Roads Microsurfacing Project Scheduled for Aug. 12-14; Access to Affected Driveways Prohibited

August 7, 2014 at 12:08 PM

SUMMIT, NJ -  A roads microsurfacing project is set to begin August 12, and continue through 14, weather permitting.  During the microsurfacing process, access to driveways will be prohibited until the application is dry.  Residents are instructed to park on neighboring side streets before 7 a.m..

The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, August 12
Glendale Road, Cedric Road, Londonderry Way, Orchard Street and North Street.

Wednesday, August 13

Wentworth Road, Templar Way, South Street and Maple Street (Morris to Mountain Aves)

Thursday, August 14

Robinhood Road, Westminster Road, High Street (Prospect Street to Springfield Avenue), Greenbriar Road, Cedar Street.

Microsurfacing is a cost-efficient surface treatment to renew a road surface and extend the life of the pavement.  During the process, a layer of asphalt emulsion is blended with finely crushed stone for traction to protect the pavement from moisture penetration and oxidation.   Asphalt Paving Systems of Hammonton NJ, is the contractor hired by the City of Summit to apply the material.

Emergency vehicles will always have access to roads in critical situations.  Residents with questions should contact the Department of Community Services (DCS) at 908 / 273-6404. Contact the Summit Police at 908 / 273-0051 if it is necessary to leave cars on the street overnight to avoid being ticketed.   Residents are encouraged to check the City of Summit website daily for scheduling updates and other project-related information.
