ROSELLE, NJ - Mayor Jamel C. Holley and the Roselle Borough Council joined several generations of family members of Dr. Charles C.Polk on Saturday to dedicate a time capsule in his honor at the Dr. Charles C. Polk Park on East 7th Avenue and Chestnut Street. This came on the 20 year anniversary of the naming of the Dr. Polk School in Roselle.
Dr. Polk's was one of the country's first African American practicing physicians who lived and practiced in Roselle and he made a tremendous impact on the borough. His contributions helped to pave the way for a new era of equality.
The capsule was filled with significant items such as pictures and other family memories and items from Dr. Polk’s Practice. Once the capsule was planted, each family member took turns with the shovel to cover the hole and then invited the community to join in. The family was undecided wether it would be opened in 20 or 50 years.
