ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School girls basketball team, having lost its prior three games, got on a better track Friday by easily defeating the team from Hopatcong High School.

The Gaels brought their record to 4-6 with the 50-30 victory over the Chiefs, a win that saw senior Melissa Murphy score 18 points and senior Emily Metje score 10.

Roxbury rolled over Hopatcong in the first period, scoring 16 to its opponents' two. Hopatcong did better in the next frame, scoring 11 to Roxbury's 10, but the Gaels turned up the heat in the third quarter, scoring 20 while the Chiefs managed only two. Hopatcong stormed back in the last period, registering 15 to Roxbury's four, but it was far from enough to win the contest.

The girls next play 7 p.m. Jan. 15 against Morris Hills at home.
