Morris Township, NJ – In a high-scoring contest that saw Shane Miller score four goals, the Roxbury High School ice hockey team defeated Sparta Jefferson United on Wednesday by a score of 8-6.

It was a much-needed victory for the struggling Gaels, a win that brought their record to 3-11-1.

The Mennen Sports Arena battle saw Miller score three goals in the first period and one in the second, all with assists by Billy Hefferle. Hefferle contributed to the points total with a first-period goal and another in the second period.

The work on the ice by Nicholas Hefferle added to the scoring: He found the net with shots in the second and third periods.

Roxbury goaltender Tyler Marston made 33 saves.

Other notable stats for the Gaels: Johnny Facchini registered four assists while Ethan Barooah got one. Six assists were credited to Billy Hefferle, two to Nicholas Hefferle and one to Miller.

It was a good thing the Gaels entered the third period ahead of the Spartans by a score of 7-3 because the Sparta Jefferson United skaters managed to bang in three goals in the final period while Roxbury made just one.

The team will strive for its fourth win on Jan 15 when it takes on West Morris Central at Mennen in a game scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
