ROXBURY, NJ - Responding to an April 11 "negotiations update" press release from the Roxbury Board of Education, the union representing Roxbury's teachers today issued a rebuttal in the form of a letter to TAPinto Roxbury.
The letter, signed by Roxbury Education Association President Cindy Krill, is published below. The only changes made were to make it comply with TAPinto Roxbury style guidelines.
I am writing in response to the Roxbury Board of Education’s April 11 online news release regarding the status of negotiations with the Roxbury Education Association (REA). To say we are disappointed by this piece of fiction, written by what can only be described as selective memory on their part, is putting it mildly. It is inaccurate, misleading and a desperate grab for public support as we head into fact finding with a state-appointed mediator.
Frankly, we are not surprised. Rather than work to truly find ways to reach a fair and equitable settlement - as they repeatedly state - the Board of Education’s negotiations committee chooses to insult the teachers, secretaries, paraprofessionals, mechanics and maintenance and grounds crew they claim to value.
Despite this egregious behavior, we are choosing to not engage in a war of the words through the media. To do so serves no immediate benefit for our students or this wonderful community. However, I urge anyone who is interested in learning the real facts surrounding negotiations to please join the REA at the upcoming Board of Education meeting on Monday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Roosevelt/Lincoln auditorium where the truth will be exposed.
