NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A Rutgers football player was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder for plotting to kill two members of the family of his friend, authorities said today.
Izaia Bullock, 22, of Piscataway, a junior linebacker, is being held at the Middlesex County jail in North Brunswick following his arrest.
Rutgers dismissed Bullock from the football program, according to a report on ESPN.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and Rutgers Police Chief Kenneth Cop said in a joint statement that on Monday, "Bullock initiated a plot to murder the family members of an acquaintance."
Authorities said the victims are not affiliated with the university.
Carey said detectives from the university police department and the prosecutor's office investigated the case.

First-degree charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison upon conviction.
