WEST ORANGE, NJ – Saint Barnabas Medical Center will host Superheroes for Hospice, a charity comic book sale, on Saturday May 31, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Barnabas Health Corporate Office at 95 Old Short Hills Road in West Orange, NJ, directly across from Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

The event will feature thousands of comics, graphic novels and action figures available for purchase; and appearances by a variety of comic book writers, sketch artists and caricaturists, including Paul Castiglia, writer and editor for Archie Comics, Joe Caramanga, writer for Marvel Comics, Shane Moore, comic book writer and artist, and Collin Cullins, comic book producer and original artist of Blue Devil. Fans can meet these creators and get autographs and sketches.

All proceeds will benefit patients and families served by Barnabas Health Hospice Palliative Care Center. Established in 1981, the Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center provides comprehensive care for patients with advanced illness, and their families, throughout ten counties in the State of New Jersey.

Superheroes for Hospice was set up in 2008 by Spiro Ballas, Volunteer Coordinator at St. Barnabas Medical Center, as way of giving back to hospice care patients outside of his work duties.

Ballas said the event has only grown since its inception, “There’s something for everyone at the events now. We have everything from Archie Comics to Zenescope Comics.”
