We here at Savory Spice Shop believe that good food should be accessible to all. It should be easy and affordable – to create healthy, high-quality meals and foster much more of an awareness of what we're eating in general, while still having fun in the kitchen. In this day and age we also can't ignore the risks of a high sodium diet. We find that with all the seasonings and blends available to us, replacing salt isn't as hard as you may think. And hey – a salt-free diet doesn't have to mean a taste-free diet! Take your cooking to the next level with some of Savory Spice Shop’s salt-free blends.
Our salt-free Tikka Masala, currently one of our most popular blends, is a hybrid of a dish that is thought to have been created by accident. The story goes that a Bangladeshi chef served a dish of traditional Chicken Tikka only to be asked by a British diner, “Where’s the gravy?” The miffed chef tossed in a can of tomato soup and spices and the results were spectacular! Although there are many variations of Tikka Masala, we created our blend to be used in the most commonly served variation; the creamy, tomato-based type. As Tikka Masala is a mild curry blend, this dish is sure to please the whole family!
Lookin’ to jazz up your plain ‘ol pork tenderloin? Tired of your tasteless roasted potatoes? Try our Bohemian Forest Seasoning, also salt-free, which is blended from crushed brown mustard seed, garlic, rosemary, black pepper, Mediterranean thyme, savory, parsley, lavender and sage. With this European blend, the scent that permeates the kitchen is worth it alone, but the flavor matches it in every way. This mustard based blend is excellent on all types of poultry and can add a European flavor to roasted turkey. Encrust your pork tenderloin or sprinkle on your veggies before roasting. We suggest using 1 – 2 tsp. per pound of meat, but a little extra won’t hurt!
Another favorite salt-free blend is our Park Hill Maple & Spice Pepper. While short on salt, it’s anything BUT short on flavor! This seasoning’s main ingredient is an old-fashioned favorite - pure maple sugar. Try using Park Hill to season pork, ham, poultry or salmon. It’s sweetness is a natural fit on sweet potatoes, yams and other veggies. Park Hill also works well for creating flavored butters and sauces. As a seasoning, start by using 1 tsp. per pound, adding more for your own taste. Try our Park Hill Maple & Spice Mustard Glaze:
2 ½ tbsp. Park Hill Maple & Spice Pepper 2 tsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. coarse grained Dijon mustard 3 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
Mix all ingredients together thoroughly.
This glaze is great for pouring over cooked veggies or as a dressing for salads. Try basting chicken, pork or salmon with Park Hill Maple & Spice Mustard Glaze before grilling.
Who would have thought that simply using different herbs and spices to flavor and enhance your foods could not only boost the nutritional value of your meals without adding any extra calories or salt, but may just be your secret weapon for enticing finicky eaters to try something new!
