I wanted to say this at the town council meeting on Monday night but they wouldn't let us speak and that isn't fair. So this letter is to Mayor Vaughan and the town council.
First I want to tell you that I have been a member at the town pool for around 10 years and it is a great pool. I am in 6th grade and I am able to ride my bike to the park pool, and I go everyday, but if you make my family join a pool in Florham Park or Madison, I can't ride my bike there. And, there is no other pool that you can go to the library, go get something to eat in town and ride your bike to.
I live very close to Madison, but my parents still let me ride to the town pool. That is because it is good exercise. Isn't that what we are supposed to be doing?
My parents only use one car because we are trying to protect the environment, so on days when my dad needs the car for work I won't be able to go to a pool anymore if you close the Park Pool because I won't be able to ride my bike. And if you make my family join a pool in another town my mom will have to drive every time we go. That isn't healthy. Plus my friends don't live in those towns.
I want to ask Mayor Vaughan and the town council a question. Why do you want to take away our pool?
Just once put yourselves in our shoes. Think about it. Would you like people to come in and take away your pool when you swam in it since you were a little kid, and still swim in it today?
There are other places to park and other fields, but for some of us there is not another pool to go to. Last summer my sister's friend's grandmother broke her ankle and she came to the pool to help it get better. I know you think that more people use the fields, I love playing sports on the field too, but little kids and grandparents don't use the fields very much. At least I don't think so. Aren't they important too?
I would also like to say that my brothers and sister and I really like this pool and we have all been looking forward to being lifeguards at this pool. Being able to teach little kids how to swim is something that provides me with an opportunity to give back some of what I have gotten.
Also, I would like to point out that alot of parents actually bring their kids from the private pools over to our pool to have their children get swim lessons. That's because we give the best lessons and have the best lifeguards!
In conclusion, I would like to ask you to please reconsider tearing down our pool. Thank you.
