WAYNE, NJ - Mayor Andre Sayegh has been chosen as a distinguished alumnus from DePaul Catholic High School. Sayegh will be formally recongized at the school’s Spring Gala to be held at The Venetian in Garfield on Thursday, March 21.

Proceeds from the Gala will be dedicated to DePaul’s mission to foster the spiritual, intellectual, physical and social growth of its students.

Known as a school that is “large enough to challenge, small enough to care,” DePaul has educated thousands of young women and men since its founding over sixty years ago.

“After graduating last in my class, I would have never imagined that I would be named Alumnus of the decade,” Sayegh said of the honor. “However, thanks to a relentless mother and the core values DePaul instilled in me, such as discipline and diligence, I found my focus.”

“I hope this award serves as an inspiration for anyone who struggles in life, but possesses the potential to succeed.”

Sayegh, a graduate of the class of 1992, is among six honorees on the evening with Christa Hoeher Reddy, Esq., a member of the Class of 1972 and a member of DePaul’s Board of Trustees, receiving the Apostle of Charity award, presented to those who have made extraordinary contributions to DePaul Catholic.

Father John Tarantino, ‘68, a priest of the Diocese of Paterson and a former DePaul faculty member, and currently the Administrator of Resurrection Parish in Randolph; Dr. Trish O’Keefe, Ph.D., ‘76, President of Morristown Medical Center and Vice President of Atlantic Health System; Debbie DuHaime, ‘80, a reporter with “iHeartMedia”; and Tara Palmeri, ‘05, a White House correspondent for ABC News will also be recognized.

Referring to the school’s moniker, as well as the life instilled on him at DePaul that he still carries today, Sayegh continued that his “Spartan approach to life has helped me become the Mayor of my hometown.”

“There were people at DePaul that believed in me and I believe that our Paterson students deserve a well rounded education that will enable them to flourish intellectually, personally, and socially.”
